We have been retained by our client, a dynamic and ambitious company with a proven track record of creating new markets in challenging areas and being visionary in their approach to recruit a Head of Finance. This is a newly created role and will join the UK Management Team which consists of the CEO, MD and HSE Manager who are primarily based in South Wales. With operations principally in Africa and following a recent restructure this is an exciting time to join this growing International SME.

The Role:

The Head of Finance will provide leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting and budgeting efforts of the company whilst Business Partnering the Managing Director and all members of the Senior Management Team consistently.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Create, coordinate, and continually evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems to include budgeting, tax planning, real estate, and maximisation of all assets.
  • Approve and coordinate changes and improvements in automated financial and management information systems for the company and in line with Group requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and Group reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and departmental budgets & reporting.
  • Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports.
  • Develop and implement finance, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Interact with other Managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  • Ensure records systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and accounting principles.
  • Develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.
  • Maximise working capital flows and requirements by analysing cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders.
  • Analyse financial statements to pinpoint potential weak areas.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Play a pivotal role as Business Partner to the Managing Director.
  • Oversee financial management of all Business Units to include developing financial and budget policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with Group Auditor.

The Person:

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Extensive Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP.
  • Ability to analyse financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution. Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
  • Extensive knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems
  • Experience of Sage ERP systems.
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling skills.
  • Provide strong day to day controls in a complex environment.
  • A recognised Accounting qualification i.e. ACMA, ACA, ACCA with senior-level finance experience.

Person Specification:

  • Commercial, entrepreneurial, pro-active with strong negotiation skills and gravitas you will have prior experience of working for a SME in a stand-alone senior finance role.
  • Be results driven with an ambition to contribute to the ongoing growth of the business at the highest level demonstrating extreme competitiveness and determination to succeed.
  • Able to demonstrate through practical experience a strong mix of technical skill and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings with key Internal and External stakeholders.
  • Be enthusiastic and energetic with a willingness to play a key role in all aspects of the business.
  • Ability & willingness to travel overseas, sometimes at short notice. African experience / knowledge a bonus.
  • Able to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Be a Team Player with a proven ability to work in a small team being proactive and self-reliant whilst demonstrating loyalty and duty to others.
  • Have integrity being honest, truthful and genuine whilst being open to criticism.
  • Demonstrate good judgement showing open mindedness, common sense and rationality whist being stoic and stress resistant.
  • Demonstrate professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact at all levels.
  • Demonstrate resilience and have a sense of humour.
  • Primarily working from home showing a willingness to work a flexible schedule.

Location and Remuneration:

This role is primarily home based with regular meetings either in person or via Skype, conference calls etc.
It is expected that the Head of Finance will spend time across all company locations as and when the role and business require.

The position will also involve quarterly visits to the Dubai operation.
