A vacancy has arisen for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join the small accounting team.

The role is split into two parts; that of an Assistant Accountant that requires understanding of general accounting practices in a manufacturing company, including prepayments and journal postings as well as a traditional Credit Controller.

  • Extracting, compiling and analysing sales data using spreadsheets to produce a variety of reports at month-end, reconciling the sales and producing the Flash sales report for distribution.  Completing monthly Intrastat and EC Sales lists reports for HMR&C; controlling the customer rebate schemes. Also, actively producing and gathering information and generating reports for annual audit purposes.
  • Assisting the Financial Controller in organising and supervising the annual inventory physical stock-take which takes place at year-end.
  • Analysing and controlling the prepayments accounts in the general ledger and posting period end journals.
  • The company makes use of pivot tables in its analysis, so a good standard of ability is expected in the use of Microsoft Excel (intermediate Level). Training will be provided in the use of pivot tables to supplement existing Excel skills if necessary.
  • Attention to detail, a professional attitude and good analytical/numeracy skills would also be expected.
  • Effective communications are essential in our company and the candidate must possess a variety of good inter-personal skills, especially when dealing with our foreign customers where English is not their first language.
  • The successful candidate will have total charge of the day-to-day management of the Debtors Ledger – Chasing payments, allocating cash received, printing statements, vetting new customers, opening new accounts etc. Comprising over 200 accounts with a ledger value in excess of £1 million and including many European accounts.
  • Candidates must also be able to liaise effectively with the customer services team to resolve credit/complaint issues from customers.
  • Ideal candidates would be familiar with or experienced in operating confidential invoice discounting facilities in a multi- currency environment.
  • A good telephone manner and a proven ability in using all available resources to collect cash is essential.
  • Ability to speak a European language would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • The candidate should possess a sound range of skills for managing the sales ledger in a busy environment and be able to demonstrate they can work independently in the main areas, but co-operatively with other team members where necessary.
  • Full training will be given in the use of the accounting system.
