This is a fabulous opportunity to join an award winning, fast growing business (48% growth 2017-2018) as a Financial Controller reporting into the Managing Director.

On behalf of our client we are looking for a fully trained accountant to report to the Managing Director and work closely with the Senior Management Team to achieve the further exciting growth and development plans over the coming years.

This person will play an important part in the growth of the company and will be responsible for managing the Company's Finances and will process reports in an accurate and timely manner as well as supervision of the Accounts and Administrative team.

Responsibilities include:

The Finance Controller will be responsible for taking charge of the sales and purchase ledger, general and fixed asset ledgers and all vat reporting including intrastat and EC sales. It also involves working closely with both the sales and buying teams to provide insightful analysis into all cost of sales ensuring that we achieve our targets for all products within the range.

  • Completion of monthly management accounts pack and KPI dashboard for group submission. This includes full analysis to show contribution and performance by each product type and provide a commentary to highlight any issues and variance to budget.  This will involve collating all operations and finance reports prepared by the team
  • Collate analytical review data for profit and loss account.
  • Reconciliation of nominal ledger accounts with supporting schedules to comply with group reporting manual and requirements.
  • Ensure HMRC compliance with relation to PAYE, VAT returns, EC Intrastat and deferment duty.
  • Oversee and manage finance and Credit Control personnel within the department
  • Maintenance of fixed asset register.
  • Oversee the calculation and monitoring of stock and debtors provisions
  • Compile forecasts and other reports on a weekly, monthly and ad hoc basis.
  • Margin analysis and forecasting, by product through reports and liaison with sales and warehouse teams.
  • Overseeing reporting and forecasting, by product based on current and historic run rates.
  • Quarterly board presentation preparation.
  • Preparing the year-end accounts pack for the auditors are complete and up to date.
  • Oversee payroll preparation, completed by retained accountants
  • Monitor the cashflow
  • Management of the accounts and admin team to include appraisal and development planning for each of the four direct employees
  • Manage the budget process, identifying targets and monitor business performance against them reporting on variances and identifying ways to minimise excess variances.  Prepare the group’s financial budgets and forecasts and review regularly.
  • Assist and support colleagues in other departments so that their contribution to the business is in line with the overall strategy.
  • Produce a daily report showing full detail of sales to date, by customer, product group, product type, with comparison to previous years.
  • Monitor stock levels and oversee the operations department effectively communicating the impacts of stock levels on the company’s cashflow and ability to trade.
  • Reconcile the company’s bank accounts and maintain the domestic and currency invoice discounting facilities on a daily basis.
  • Reconcile the balance sheet accounts to ensure that postings are accurate and reflect the Company’s true position.
  • Oversee supplier invoices are processed and paid in a timely manner, dealing with discrepancies effectively and promptly.  
  • Oversee the monitoring of the Company’s customer accounts, chasing overdue debts and dealing with any issues or queries and escalating as appropriate.
  • Use financial modelling to assess the potential effect of any new product opportunities (NPD) or developments affecting the business.
  • Maintain reporting, record keeping and compliance systems and ensure that all statutory requirements are met including submitting annual returns for all companies within the group.
  • Ensure transactions are posted to the correct nominal code and appropriate cost centre to accurately account for the performance of a particular product group.  Ensure that the nominal accounts are set up to accurately reflect new product groups.
  • Manage the Company’s treasury maximising liquidity and ensuring adequate resources to operate to plan sufficiently.
  • Ensure the company has sufficient insurance cover in place to cover its operations and risks.
  • Report on the performance and viability of each individual product that the Company supplies advising on any poor performance or slow moving items minimising any potential losses to the Company.
  • Oversee the Company’s personnel and payroll records and ensure the payroll is processed in time and all submissions are filed within deadlines.  
  • Responsible for on line HR portal for holidays and absences.
  • Support the Senior Management Team and assist with strategic business decisions.
  • Carry out other duties as requested by the Managing Director(s) or other departments.
  • Maintain positive relations with the business’s advisers, auditors, bank, and external bodies (e.g. HMRC).
  • Work closely with the Company’s external auditors, ensuring that the Company and Directors’ obligations are fully complied with in a timely manner.
  • Proactively look for relevant funding for new projects – looking at external sources of finance (grants, investors, bank funding).
  • Proactively look at the market for any potential M&A activity that compliments the portfolio and assists in delivering strategic business growth.

Person Specification
An experienced qualified or qualified by Experience Accountant with an excellent track record of success. You will be an outwardly focused individual, a natural communicator and a fast-moving strategic achiever not scared of multi project demands.  
This person will play an important part in the growth of the company, so will be fully familiar with funding for growth and potentially acquisition and mergers
